About the Role
We are seeking a diligent and detail-oriented Accountant to join our team. The successful candidate will contribute to the organisation’s financial operations by preparing and managing financial reporting, taxation, budgeting, and compliance. This role involves supporting senior staff in analysing financial performance and ensuring that all statutory and governance obligations are met.
Our team utilises QuickBooks Online, Employment Hero, and Perfect Gym to manage financial, payroll, and operational processes, and familiarity with these systems is an advantage.
Key Responsibilities
- Develop and implement budgetary and accounting policies to support short-term and long-term business planning.
- Prepare accurate and timely financial statements for statutory bodies and internal reporting, ensuring compliance with Australian Accounting Standards (AAS).
- Conduct financial investigations, audits, and data analysis to support capital financing, business acquisitions, and sales.
- Analyze internal and external operating costs, income, and expenditures to identify opportunities for financial process improvements and cost efficiencies.
- Collaborate with external tax accountants to plan and manage group tax liabilities, including the preparation and lodgement of taxation returns with the Australian Taxation Office (ATO).
- Implement and maintain accounting systems, overseeing the selection and integration of computer-based accounting software for consolidated financial reporting, such as QuickBooks Online.
- Monitor and review internal control systems to ensure compliance, accuracy in financial operations, and effective risk management.
- Perform weekly cash flow forecasting and ensure the timely processing of payroll, vendor payments, and other scheduled financial obligations.
- Process payroll for employees across multiple locations, including tax compliance for PAYG and payroll tax, superannuation reporting via Employment Hero, and adherence to Fitness Industry Awards.
- Assess financial performance, providing insights and recommendations for improving statutory compliance and governance.
- Manage cost allocation, financial reporting across 17 locations, vendor account reconciliation, and deliver key financial insights to senior management.
- Ensure financial statements are accurately reported and review final reports for accuracy and completeness.
- Handle all correspondence with the ATO, vendors, tax agents, employees, and internal departments.
- Maintain accurate general ledger records and perform monthly reconciliations for bank accounts and financial transactions across all sites.
Skills and Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field.
- Demonstrated experience at least 1 year
- Strong understanding of financial reporting, taxation compliance, and payroll processes.
- Familiarity with Australian taxation laws and industry-specific awards, such as the Fitness Industry Award.
- Proficiency in accounting software and financial systems, especially QuickBooks Online, Employment Hero, and Perfect Gym.
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
- Attention to detail and accuracy in financial reporting.
- Excellent organisational and time management skills.
